In a way this carries on from the thread what do you miss from classic wrestling? I was just watching WWE Experience this morning, which we have on Sky One in the UK and although I still enjoyed it as I love wrestling it just didn't do it for me since watching a classic Wrestlemania the other day with Macho Man vs Ric Flair.
Generally apart from the recent CM Punk title win on Raw the excitement and surprises has been missing.
There are a lot of big names no longer around, sadly they passed away before their time or no longer involved for other reasons.
Obviously we had the sad and tragic losses of Benoit and Eddy plus many others from an earlier era including Owen Hart, Davey Boy, Rick Rude and Curt Hennig but Austin is no longer active due to his neck, Goldberg left, RVD left also. To me it seems in the early part of the new millenium there was a big gap where we lost a lot of big talent and the not enough new talent was made. WCW and ECW ended and we didn't see a lot of the big WCW contracted names for some time which had a negative effect on the business. One new huge superstar was made - Brock Lesnar we lost him along with Paul Heyman plus no more Bischoff. Let's see who else - The Rock he's gone along with Austin they were two of the biggest names in the boom era. Mick Foley he is no longer full time either.
Promos and post match interviews - on the wrestlemania I watched 9 (?) there were post match interviews which really added something to the feel of it all. We got to see the emotion of Ric Flair who'd just lost his WWF Title to Savage then we witnessed Randy's emotion having been attacked afterwards.
We still get the wrestlers doing promos etc but it is done in such a different way, treated like a soap opera rather than one man talking about how he is going to beat another man or avenge his defeat.
Lack of managers - I'd love to see more managers, TNA seemed to have more of this with Coach D 'Amore, Father James Mitchell but not so much now.
Heel factions and great storylines. Well there is Edge and Vicky's faction and not much else but nothing resembling the stables of wrestlers that dominated wrestling such as The Four Horsemen, Heenan Family, nWo, DX or The Hart Foundation. Team Canada and Jarretts faction were good for a while alas no more.
WCW vs WWF/E has been and gone and there is little chance of doing it again but better unless Vince signed Sting and he led a stable of against Undertaker and others but this unlikely and perhaps too late?
Realism - now we are exposed to the fact wrestling is not a real sport and MMA is so big now does wrestling lack realism?
