Hogan And Bischoff Starting New Wrestling Promotion

Hulk Hogan is just days away from launching his own professional wrestling promotion intended to compete with World Wrestling Entertainment, reports The Sun out of the United Kingdom. Hogan told The Sun that he and Eric Bischoff are very close to signing a television deal with a major United States network. Hogan commented, “Last night me and Eric were getting ready to sign a deal with one of the TV networks here in America. We had a little bit of a problem with the licensing and merchandising, which has delayed it. But I totally expect we’re going to sign the TV portion of this very soon, because there’s no point in starting any sort of wrestling organization without the TV locked in place”.

Hogan says after the television deal is locked, they will make an official announcement. Hulk went on to tell The Sun that the new product he and Bischoff plan to launch will be a product similar to WWE but he “prays to God it’s nothing like what is on TV now”, and even refers to WWE's product as "boring".

When asked what they plan on doing for talent the Hulkster said, “There are a lot of unhappy campers in the WWE and there are also a new breed of wrestlers that Vince McMahon hasn’t explored yet, that we have. And I’m in better shape than I have been for about 10 years”.

This would not be a traditional professional wrestling promotion - the idea is to have celebrities train to be professional wrestlers and then square off in the ring.

The show is being pitched through Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey's production company - which is responsible for Scott Baio's hit VH1 show.

Sounded like a great idea and I was down with a little competition, until I read the part about "training celebrities to wrestle", lol. I don't want to see a reality show about Wrestling or people like Jay Leno stepping in the ring again! Lol. Come on, lol. And if it's going to be on VH1, then it's probably gonna be a reality show! Lol.

I think the biggest problem is Hulk's ego. I read an article about him ruining WCW and he nearly helped to ruin the WWE too. It had very good arguements, like when Flair was head booker and was pushing guys like Steve Austin and Ricky Steamboat. Steve Austin was embarassed by Dugan before he left when Hogan had control. Look at Flair and many other greats who have dropped their titles at the companies will. Hogan could become just like Vince if he gets control.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that the new Hulk Hogan professional wrestling reality show appears to be a go. The show will be called Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Wrestling. A casting call has been put out announcing eight episodes that will be filmed June 2nd through July 2nd in Los Angeles, California.

Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey will be producers for the show. Meltzer is reporting that the network for the show is not known

- We are now able to confirm that CMT is the cable network that has picked up on Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Wrestling reality television series. As we noted yesterday, the show will be produced by Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey and the first season will be taped this summer in Los Angeles, California. The series will have eight episodes with a live 2 hour finale. The casting call that they have put out for the show calls for “adventurous celebrities.”

Is there any news about this show? I hope it's better than the UK version with Roddy Piper a couple of years back, Piper was the best thing about it by the way, there wasn't enough actual wrestling content being the main problem.

No wrestling involved in that Show, it was Gladiator style with minor celebs pushing each other.

Not sure these two can work together because of their egos. But it may and if it happens to work out then maybe we can see some good wrestling programs although the celebrity thing really needs to be put to bed. I think anytime a celebrity comes in and has sucess against a wreslter it does nothing to help the promotion. Example Arquette as WCW champion? Disgraceful and puts a big dark cloud over everything and everyone who has held that belt.
