Well I'm not sure if you would consider Woman a manager when she was the "Fallen Angel", if you do I would say she was my favorite manager. She was in Championship Wresting in Florida for some time. I've actually never got to see video of her there, only pictures.
Others I remember that were pretty good were: Jim Cornette, and Paul Ellering (Manager of the Road Warriors).
I also didn't know Bobby Heenan (who is my favorite manager ever) was in the AWA, but I never saw him back then. Did anybody see him in AWA and if so how was he?
But when it's all said and done in non-WWF Managers, I would probably pick J.J. Dillon and one of my new favorite Managers ever who I just recently saw for the first time on a Memphis/ICW 1985 Tape is Angelo Poffo.
Angelo Poffo and Randy Savage together sure did some great stuff that made Wrestling back then so great. Also when Lanny Poffo tagged with Randy while Angelo was their manager. Great stuff back then.

I saw Bobby Heenan in Hulk Hogan's missing AWA matches. Where is take on AWA Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwinkle with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan as is Manager. My Favorite Manager is..Paul Bearer&James E. Cornette!

When looking back at the old territories, its actually really hard to pick a favorite.Everyone was so diverse and entertaining.I live in the "loop" ,as it was called, for the old Memphis Territory. They would come here every Wednsday Night at the Evansville Coliseum.I was lucky enough to be there live to witness the begining of many careers that would go on to fame and fortune in the big leagues.Naturally with this array of talent over the years,I bore witness to the greatest wrestling managers ever. The only exception to that was Bobby Heenan, who was by that time already in the AWA.Unfortunately for me ,this was before the AWA/CWA talent agreement,so I never got to see him live til his WCW years. So leaving out Heenan,we saw the beginning of Jim Cornette,Jimmy Hart,Paul E Dangerly(yes he used that name before being called "Dangerously"),the early years of Paul Ellering,Percy Pringle(Paul Bearer),Missy Hyatt,Gary Hart,Bert Prentice and colorful host of managers who I never saw work for a "big league" promotion such as WWF,NWA,or AWA.Those guys who remained regional managers over the years were just as entertaining as the ones who went on to the big time.Maybe sometime I will make a post giving firsthand accounts of those wild days from the Mid-Southern/CWA/USWA days.To stay on topic ,the mention of WCCWs Gary Hart reminds me of another WCCW stalwart.Gen.Skandor Ackbar was as hated a heel manager as there was,but later in his career he (much like Heenan) turned to announcing.Much like he Heenan ,he displayed an underrated sense of humour during those days.Which was interesting ,because while Bobby always showed this while being an active manager,Ackbar was just a cruel heel during his managing days.It was a strange yet unexpected and entertaining change of pace for the "general".

Nice, that's really cool Flair that you got to see the the big name wrestlers before they blew up and went on to bigger leagues. You probably got to see how they really were then. That would of been cool to be there at the "Loop". Did you see Randy Savage and if so how was he back then?

To Iceman:Yes I saw Randy a few times back then.It was during his feuds with Jerry Lawler. Those were some awesome "pre hardcore" hardcore matches. My favorite was a cage match beween the 2,where they bled bucket loads.Another good feud I got to see Savage in was against Dutch Mantel.Again, very bloody wars between them. The big difference was that Savage was a babyface for the Mantell angle. As far as how Savage was back then,I would have to say he was pretty much the same character. The only things that stick out in my mind though, was that he was far more of a "looney" or crazy character back then.In terms of his ability,he was already a superstar in my book.It was pretty easy to tell that he was going to go on to win some companys world title.

Nice Flair, thanks a lot for the info on him. I guess he's always been strong and kept it real, I like that. "Ohhh Yeahhh".

Bobby "The Brain" Heenan is the best! I ran into him here in Vegas with a couple of friends from college. We talked for about 10 minutes about his memories. He is the funniest man I have ever met. The man!
