Hi all aboard on the board
I've just successfully registered after having problems using my AOL addy and thought it would be nice to introduce myself ( not sure if it's right place to do so being a newbie though).
Iceman introduced me to his site via 1stopwrestling.co.uk where I have posted on for about 2 years since I bought my first PC! - Glad a bought it too!
I'm 29 and got back into wrestling about '99 as I settled down with my wife and became a dad have got more into than ever! I missed out the period between 1993 and 1998/99 so have limited knowledge of that era but have bought a fair few tapes of WCW,WWF and others from then, but still want more
When I first got into wrestling we didn't know much of the American business apart from a few travelling names from across the pond such as the Missippi Mauler went on to be Kamala. Wrestling for us was less glitzy with different rules and was on ITV at 4pm when everything stopped. Then around 1988 they started showcasing special shows of WWF bouts featuring Hogan,British Bulldogs,Hart Foundation,Macha Man and others that got me intrigued in the US grapple game. Around the same time cable and Sky (satelite TV) were introduced and many people paid extra down our road for it and lucky for me we usually found a friend who would do us a favour and record it.
I think it was 1989 the traditional British wrestling came off ITV for good,NWA / WCW was on and some late night WWF so there was still something for us,but the British wrestling on national TV became a thing of the past.
Anyway my favourite wrestlers over time in the US grapple game are Randy Savage,Hogan (didn't always like as he always won was predictable), British Bulldogs, Ric Flair and the 4 Horsemen,Hart Foundation amongst others.
I am less of a fan of the newer wrestling but do follow TNA and others on The Wrestling Channel over here in the UK. My preference in wrestling is a story being told in the mainstream US wrestling tradition rather than the workers just "showing off".
I look foward to chatting to you guys on here and reminiscing over classic wrestling moments.
All the best
Duane
