I was curious why people who life in England, Scottland, Northern Ireland, and Wales simply say sometimes they just live in the UK. Like even for their locations on their profiles here for example. Why not say where you live exactly in there, like England, Scottland, Northern Ireland, or Wales? You should be proud of the individual heritage of those places because their all unique and have their own culture right? I know all together they form the UK, but it's not like I just say I live in the United States when there are 50 states, or me even just saying North America. Know what I mean? So I usually say Pennsylvania, which is a state in the United States. Just wondering.

English people mostley think of themselves as english
same for the welsh.
scotland more into uk thing
n.ireland and rep ireland say irish.
everyone hates each other even english citys hate other citys e.g. manchester hates scomemy scousers from liverpool.
the north hates the south, they get everyything handed to them on a plate.
and so on. but everyone hates foriegners.
but at the same time are fun loving people.

Putting it a bit harshly There 3rd Hardy. I don't think its as bad as all that. But then again us Northerners tend to be a bit more the mellow live and let live type of UK people. Well exept when it comes to the south. I'm proud to be English but I'm also proud to come from the UK. (by the way I might be wrong but I don't think the term UK actualy covers Northen Island.) But then again had history been diffenrent and Bonnie Prince Charlie won I'd have been from Carlisle in SCOTLAND not Carlisle in England.

I know what you mean, Iceman. Its the same when people say "Oh I'm British", I preffer to say "I'm English", I'm proud of my anglo-saxon heritage and dont see why I shouldnt be. It also annoys me kinda when ever you see on websites and other places, they put down UK as a country, as its not, really, England, Scotland, N. Ireland and Wales (well, sorta) are all seperate countrys, not just one big place...Yeah, I get what I mean, Im wording it all wrong but whatever. It does and you mean Ireland, not Island, lol... You're thinking of Great Britain, which doesnt include N. Ireland, however, I believe people in N. Ireland have the right to call themselves British if they wish...Its all abit strange when N. Ireland comes into things, best off forgetting its there!

Well glad you know what I mean Warrior, lol. Yeah, would rather have people put where their from too, like I could just say, I'm from North America, or just United States, but that is so general and huge and every state is different and has different traits and characteristics.
3rd Hardy, if everybody hates each other (well sorta speak as you say, lol) then even the more reason to separate themselves and put exactly where their from, not to lump them all together and just say UK. If the people from Scotland don't like the people from England, then why would they want to be thought of as the same people and just say their from the United Kingdom?
Ok Ricky, so generally speaking Northern Ireland have people that are more friendly, mellow, and enjoy life. While Southern Ireland tend to have more money, egos, and a more glamorous life style? Or like the Suburbs (Northern England) verses the City (Southern England) you might put it too meaning a different way?

Its to be PC really and I think its got something to do with Blair boning Bush up the ricker. As its mainly Americans that called us British and then putting on that really bad fake posh englishamn accent which by the way annoys us English let alone the other countries in Britain. And I agree with Hardy we are a very divided country but we also come together when we need to and put any self inflicted differences aside to help each other out

I am English and proud of it, just like a Scotsman- Irishman or Welshman who are proud of their Countries. I do tend to say that I am from The UK when I speak with people from other Countries, but I try not to say that I am British because anyone can be British, anyone can come to the UK and take up British Nationality, you can only be English if you are born here. I often wonder if people from other Countries get mixed up when I say that I am from The UK because we call it The United Kingdom and I understand that Thailand also call their Country The United Kingdom. We were once called Great Britain, I wonder where that one went to, maybe we are not Great any more.

It's just being more specific, that's what I didn't understand I guess.

I changed my 'profile' on June 29th to show that I come from Southampton, England. I must say that I feel better for doing that and of course it do help people reading my post's to see where in The UK that I live. Although I have heard about this business of people in The North of The UK not likeing people from The South, and vice-versa, I do not believe that this is true, I am aware of the friendly rivalry amongst us, we are only a very small Island in context with the rest of the World and our Island includes several Countries so I suppose that there is bound to be a bit of rivalry but it is all done in fun. Personally I like everyone, it do not matter where they are from and I think that is the general census of opinion here in The UK. In my earlier post I said that '' anyone can come to The UK and take British Nationality'' and that ''Only people who are born in England can be English'' I am sorry if this appeared to be raceist as it was not intended to be, my Partner read that post and he told me that what I had written sounded bad so I apologies to anyone who have found it offensive.
