The Iron Sheik was a great Wrestler. He always made me laugh, from his mustache all the way down to his pointed shoes. He was one tough customer too, and a great Title holder (Heavyweight and Tag-Team). You knew if the stcensord that "Camel Clutch" on somebody it was over.
l saw in a Rock interview on a talk show he was talking about the Iron Sheik, the Rock said when the Sheik used to come down to the ring before the match he would tell the audience nicely and quiety, "please don't say USA", trying to be nice about it ya know, I can respect that too, but audience wouldn't listen, hence the chants of USA from the crowd. Maybe he shouldn't of said anything before the matches instead?
Also the Iron Sheik used to call Mean Gene, "Gene Mean", that was classic. Iron Sheik, "Well you know Gene Mean..."

Sheik was hilarious to wacth, I used to always laugh when he would make such an odd appearance from 1986-1988, because you knew he'd be booed insanely, and that he'd do his stupid "IRAN NUMBER ONE! USA HOCK!".

Iron Sheik was a great wrestler. Funny yet a dangerous wrestler.
I may not have agreed with his philosophy, but you can't deny his ability.

I'd always wondered why his 1988 comeback during the summer was so short-lived. He hadn't lost a step, having been fired for drug possession charges in a May 26th, 1987 incident with "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. He disappeared as fast as he came, only to return three years later as Col. Mustafa. What a waste! He is such an awesome talent. Even Turner jobbed him out in less than a minute to Sting at Wrestle War '89.

If the WWF didn't release him (and surprised that's the reason, drug charges), then he would of finished out his career a lot better and we would of got to enjoy him longer, thanks Vince. He was always entertaining, just not as Col. Mustafa. That's ashame. I never knew he was in WCW at all. Was that his only match there? Obviously sounds like he didn't do well at Wrestle War against Sting.

No, he did terribly. I've seen Sting take longer to put away Mike Thor and The Mulkey Brothers on W.C.W. Saturday Night than he did to tackle the Shiek. Shiek hit him with the Iranian flagpole and I think choked him out with his Arabic ringwear, but Sting came back, Stinger splashed him, and Scorpion Deathlocked him in what couldn't have been more than a 75 second match. It was criminal! The man who enabled Hulk Hogan to begin his first World Title reign and ended Bob Backlund's was treated worse than a preliminary bum on a TBS D-show. And then at the Great American Bash pay-per-view, he jobbed to Mike Rotunda, a man who would portray a Wall Street millionaire and then tax accountant the following years. Thank G-d he didn't stay long.

Well, it was still called World Championship Wrestling, as that was the Crockett area of the N.W.A. (Mid-Atlantic region) I just called it W.C.W. in the posting for convenience sake. After Turner bought it, was it really ever the N.W.A. again.
