I saw this topic on another wrestling forum i go on and thought this would be interesting to discuss:
I think Wrestling is failing because there is just too much segments/talk time then there is actual wrestling!!
I mean let's take a trip down memory lane back to the 80's/early 90's. All you would have is a few minutes before your match to do a little promo to hype it up even more then you would go out there and wrestle! Now, if you have a 2hr wrestling show, in total 1 hr of that will just be ppl coming out and talking!!
Fans don't want watch a WRESTLING show to listen to ppl talk about themselves etc, they want to watch a WRESTLING show for actual WRESTLING!!
Also another factor as to why wrestling is failing is just as you mentioned. The promotions are just using their major talent or trying to find major talent to get the ratings up etc instead of USING the talent they already have. I mean, if you used AJ Styles, Christian Cage, Christopher Daniels, Ken Kennedy, Chris Benoit and so on CORRECTLY then you wouldn't have to go out and use MAJOR talent like Sting, Hogan, Rock etc because the talent that you already have would put asses in seats and ratings!!
If they continue to use their talent who have been in the promotion since the beginning as JOBBERS to ppl like Sting, Hogan etc then eventually they will get sick of it and leave. Then before you know it, you'll be left with NOTHING!!
Also another problem that many promotions have got these last few years is predictability!! Due to all the rumours and news leaked on the net, there is no element of surprise which then obviously bores the fans.
One last thing, I feel WWE should be more open-minded with what talent they want to bring in, instead of just bringing in tall, big "wrestlers" who most likely can't wrestle!!
Wrestling companies plainly start with an ambition which is to make a profit but to do that they have jobbers, jobbers being young talent who just put people over, these jobbers start off as main carders till 2/3 years down the line the company grows and gets bigger take TNA as an example
The problem with these companies are they build around the youth but when they reach the TV slots or some big time major things they start to look BIG and to vetran wrestlers hense the JOBBING parts for the loyal company wrestlers
This is a problem in TNA where in this case SPIKE TV are making TNA get MAJOR STARS in that people know from WWE to get more TV ratings instead of feeding off fresh new talent and going for a new audience
These are hazards to the wrestling world and really are messing up federations and chances superstars have to break it through
In my opinion I say Coperate bastards are the problem that hold a true fresh wrestling wars and instead we are fed with vetrans who steal the spot light off young talent who earnt the right
Why do you think wrestling is failing?
