This week for That's my story and I'm sticking to it I'll be telling you what I think of some of the storylines in TNA.
Vince Russo is now a member of the TNA creative team and some people may think Russo won't help TNA but since Russo has become a member of the TNA creative team the storylines in TNA have really improved. Before Russo became a member of the creative team there weren't many storylines in TNA and I know that some TNA fans will say that TNA is wrestling not sports entertainment but wrestling is about storylines and if TNA wants to compete with the WWE they need storylines. They need something that will make the audience want to see what happens in a feud and they need to give people a reason to want to watch TNA. TNA isn't close to competing with the WWE right now but storylines will help TNA compete with the WWE. TNA competing with the WWE would be the two shows going head to head and seeing what show gets better ratings. ECW is the third brand and it's a terrible show but it gets better ratings then Impact. I think that tells the story of how TNA isn't close to competing with the WWE. The result of the lack of competition is some of the terrible wrestling shows you see on T.V. and it's already been said that competition makes wrestling a better product.
The Kevin Nash/X Division storyline is entertaining but some of the storyline isn't helping the X Division. Nash has given the X Division some character and Alex Shelly is entertaining. The storyline might make the X Division look like a joke if they continue to have some of the ridiculous competitions. Christopher Daniels is the X Division champion and it will be interesting to see who Daniels defends the title against at the next PPV. It's possible that Daniels could challenge for the NWA Heavy Weight title after his current X Division title run and he's one of the few X Division wrestlers that could become a main event wrestler. Sabin, Senshi, Lethal, and Dutt seem like they will just be X Division wrestlers and they are great wrestlers but it seems like they lack the charisma and mic skills to become a main event wrestler. Senshi didn't get a solid run as champion and I think he could have done more to help the X Division as the X Division champion. Sonjay Dutt is a great wrestler and he deserves to have a title run and Lethal could possibly have a title run. The storyline has helped make the X Division more then just a bunch of flips and Kevin Nash not wrestling is a good decision. It will be interesting to see what direction the Kevin Nash/X Division storyline goes in the next few weeks.
The tag team storylines in TNA have been all over the place recently as some of the tag teams have disbanned. AMW is probably the most over rated tag team in wrestling but they still helped the tag division because they are a legitimate team. It will be interesting to see what direction the storyline goes and if AMW remains a tag team. The Naturals aren't a team and it's being reported on internet sites that Andy Douglas won't be wrestling in TNA. The Naturals were tag team champions but it seems like when Team 3D debuted in TNA and AMW won the titles The Naturals weren't involved in any feuds. I think The Franchise storyline was a good storyline and it could help the tag team division but it didn't lead to any storylines and I think TNA should have had atleast The Naturals involved in a feud for the tag team titles. LAX has had some rocky title runs but I think overall LAX has really helped the tag division. Konnan is a great manager and his mic skills have really helped the storyline. Konnan is a very important part of LAX because if you have heard any of Homicide's ROH promos you know that Homicide doesn't have good mic skills. That's why it's important that Konnan be there to help further the storyline with his mic skills. I read that Konnan has been having some kidney problems and let's wish Konnan a speedy recovery and that he's back on Impact soon. Team 3D will be challenging for the tag team titles at Final Resolution and what have they done to earn a title shot? They have been wrestling in TNA for over a year and what have they accomplished? They haven't won the titles and they haven't been involved in alot of feuds. Team 3D is one of the best tag teams of all time and I think they could be doing alot more to help TNA if the TNA creative team gives them a solid title run. The LAX v.s. Team 3D match should be a good match and it will be interesting to see what direction the tag team division goes after the PPV.
The Abyss/Sting/Christain Cage storyline is an interesting storyline and it will be interesting to see what direction the storyline goes in the next few weeks. Abyss is a great wrestler and he deserves to be the NWA Heavy Weight champion because he's sacrificed his body to have good matches. TNA signed Christain last November and he won the title three months later without really getting a solid push to the title. The first thing Christain accomplished in TNA was win the NWA title but when a wrestler starts at the top of the ladder there's only going back down the ladder from there which is why Christain had a weak title reign. TNA signed Sting and although Sting did help the ratings somewhat this will probably be Sting's last run in wrestling before he retires so he obviously won't be wrestling in TNA long enough to carry the company into the future as the champion.
I think the Kurt Angle/Samoa Joe storyline could be alot better and I think many people expected the matches to be alot better then the matches that were on PPV. The Angle/Joe match at Genesis was only fifteen minutes and it was a good match but it wasn't the "dream match" that TNA said it would be and there really wasn't a build up to the match. The rematch at Turning point was another good match but again it wasn't the "dream match" that many people were expecting and it will be interesting to see if the match at Final Resolution is better then the other two matches.
Overall I think TNA storylines have improved and that is an important part of TNA competing with the WWE.
Until next week
