Hmmmmm Backlund was a good talant I'll grant you but I wans't meening it like that Vince Snr hyped him as a brilliant all rounder.
Which he wasn't Backlund knew his scientific stuff all right but he couldn't put it together in the ring to give a smooth performance and thats what hurt him more then his percived lack of charisma.
His Heel run I have no problme with.
(and it's telling when some one like Bret Hart even says that he knew from the get go his program with Backlund was a mistake.)
And Backlund is the perfect example of why promoters should NEVER Plan a Year in adavcen for the title picture.
Superstar Graham could have held the belt for a lot longer and got over EVEN more with the fans, turned face and fude with Ivan Koloff.
But Vince Snr had promissed Backlund the tile after a year long run by Graham. and By all accounts Backlund was paranoid he always thought his opponnat would doble cross him and shoot on him.

Actually, Tie-Dye, the more I think about it, you make a lot of sense. I guess it's true Backlund's in-ring performances weren't brilliant by modern standards. But I loved his angles, especially with guys like Man Mountain Rock, Bret Hart, and Jerry Lawler.

I'd like to offer Kevin Nash/Diesel - a truly awful wrestler who put on more boring matches than most guys have matches What's the big problem? Sure, Nash held the title longer than he should have, but he was a good enough worker. I always thought he was misused in WWE, even as champ, and never realised his potential until the nWo exploded in WCW.

I don't think Superstar was overated at all. Actually maybe later in his career I thought he was underated and not used strong enough, being in too many 6-Man Tag Matches and what not. Although I didn't see much of Superstar Billy Graham, I always viewed him as the the Top Star before Hogan for his time.

Although I didn't see much of Superstar Billy Graham, I always viewed him as the the Top Star before Hogan for his time. Well that was kind of down to the fact that Graham's body more spercificaly his bone structure was already dieing due to the sterriod abuse in the ealry part of his carer. Thats a good way to discribe him. Although as Tripple H said Graham could do more then just Drop a Leg. ;D And Hogan, Jesse Venturea, Dimond Dallas Page as well as a few others all based there chracter and took traits from Graham so he was a very influenchial figure in the history of Pro-Wrestling

FROM what I seen of SSGRAHAM HE WAS NOT reall smooth in the ring, but I was wrong in saying he was over rated, since then I have seen him in his prime on tapes, & he was very good.
thanks rlb 147
