What did you like most about ECW "Extreme Championship Wrestling"?
I like that it was Hardcore to the fulliest. A unique wrestling style. Such a great variety of wrestlers too like: Rob Van Dam, Raven, Sandman and 2 Cold Scorpio with Woman, the "Franchise" Shane Douglas with Francine, Sabu, Bubba Ray Dudley, and Tommy Dreamer.

they did things that nobody else was doing at the time. its a shame that vince mcmahon stole most of their ideas and benefited, while ecw went bankrupt/sold it. the pregnant doges get the riches and the rich get richer..., same thing.

I liked the fact that they put more of a emphasis on the in ring product instead of a storyline
I loved watching Jerry Lynn - that guy is just awesome

There is an old saying about Elvis which goes 'Before anyone did anything,Elvis done it all' well that is nearly true for ECW. Although they did not invent 'Hardcore' wrestling they took the seeds of it,planted it and it grew into something far bigger than could ever be imagined. They broke all the rules of Kayfabe which essentially changed wrestling forever. No longer could WWF'S comic book creations or WCW'S wrasslin' show be compelling viewing because ECW would take a leak on everything they stood for. They took wrestlers like Jericho,Guerrero,Benoit,Mysterio,Malenko,Tazz,Raven,Saturn,Douglas and Richards to name a few and made them stars when no one else would touch them because they were too small, didn't have the look or were too difficult. The majority of ECW wrestlers bonded together to work for the benefit of the company and not for themselves. ECW changed wrestling for the better and there is not a week goes by that i don't miss watching that little bingo hall from Philadelphia being brought alive by the magical sound of E'C'DUB E'C'DUB!

How true. The ECW wrestlers were a team to make a wrestling league for one simple cause, to make it better, they were team players, they cared. They wrestled for the love of the sport, obviously not for the money considering most of them had bounced checks and didn't/couldn't even get paid towards the end. They had heart for the federation they were in.
So many stars on the same page and level of talent too. There wasn't like one Hulk Hogan dominating in ECW, there were like 7 or more who could all be the main star, but they were equal, thus making great competition. Tazz, Dreamer, Franchise, Raven, Sandman, Rob Van Dam, Sabu, etc. They could all and were all great champions.

Living in Kansas City, I never got to see much ECW. It didn't really make it out here. The only ECW I really got to see was when it was on TNN. I remember it as being fun to watch, but honestly, I really can't give an opinion about ECW because I never got to see it much.

You should pick up a tape with some ECW matches. I miss those ECW days, great stuff back then.

I think that pretty much sums up this topic. ECW was different, and it took that simple fact and...ran with it. The people involved (from the very top to the very bottom) knew that they had somethin' special, and they pushed the envelope each and every time they turned on a camera, or the wrestlers stepped into the ring. ECW was more than just wrestling...it was a way o' life for a lot o' people, for a very long time. I really miss it...

ECW made everyone equal. Its hard to add to the great post TD did.But they pushed the company as a whole by putting on the most brutal matches,The best match of the years.ECW made the monday night wars because what made WWF/WCW the level of success they were was ripping off ECWs style and wrestlers.Even though their talent base was robbed over and over again they still came very close to being a permanent fixture in todays wrestling. Many of us dearly miss ECW very few of us miss Doink the Clown.

ECW did revolutionise wrestling in a way which can never be repeated, however I think it was really coasting on fumes from the very beginning(or at least since Heyman took it over) because the money was rarely there and, let's face facts, they had an 'Extremely' difficult time drawing more than 2,000 fans during a boom period for the biz. I think when most fans today say they were a fan of ECW, I think they really mean 'I'm a fan of the WWE resurrection of ECW'. There are the exceptions, like quite a few posters on these fine forums(Sabu Steve being the most obvious example), but the casual fan is most likely a fan of the memory and/or resurrection of ECW.
Edit: That said, I followed ECW since I started watching wrestling in 1998, and found it highly entertaining and innovative until it's dying day.
